Tharsis, often disguise himself as Waddle the clown and tickles the bones out of people with his sarcastic and REALLY lame jokes. Regardless of clown make-up, Tharsis is a natural comedian. His other roles include; geting bullied by Hoopee (Terence's clown name and Waddle's partner in crime); being Terence's long distance co-driver (who constantly falls asleep midway); and an active contributor to Terence ridiculous riddles and extremely lame jokes. Tharsis is currently based in Germany gearing himself up to work for Kedai Repair Boeing.
Deb, which hawker food would you compare Terence to? Give specifics like a typical sauce, you would generally eat with it, or a specific hawker where you can find this. Give reasons as well, like oily face, or sweet and salty, expensive, or whatever.
Assam laksa – from Penang of course! The combination of sweet, sour and salty simply entices my palates. It stirs the hunger juices in my belly and urges me to finish the entire bowl without any difficulty.
The taste of assam laksa is liken to Terence’s personality. There’s the ‘sweet’ side of him, but there’s also the ‘sour’ side of him. As everyone has weaknesses, he’s no exception. But the beauty of it is that he combines the ‘sour’ part of him with the ‘salty’ (we are called to be salt of the earth aren’t we?) and the concoction of the 3 flavors is what brews an appetite for love in me for him.
Terence, if given a choice, would you eat a dolphin? How would you like it to be cooked? (Note: Deb’s favourite animal is dolphin)
My honest answer would be YES (just being honest). But I will (I repeat, I will) NOT eat it with her around (too tragic to think what will happen to me!). I love the thrill of eating weird stuff once in awhile (In my lifetime I’ve eaten monkey, dog, grasshoppers, sago worms and maggots). .
What’s your favourite 'couple' pic?
Deb, what race do you think you probably could win Terence in? (eg. sackrace, swimming, typing, (anything that can be considered 'physical')
Prawn eating race! I will beat him flat without him even starting! It’s also physically demanding since I have to use my fingers to de-shell, mouth to chew and stomach to digest.
Terence, when and how did the switch between you and Deb, as a friend to a good friend, a best friend and a girlfriend come about for you personally? Any deciding moments for you, personally?
Good question. There was no exact defining moment but I can give you a rough moment when status change throughout our friendship:
Acquaintance to good friend – was when we were having fun cooking maggi mee at a camp together. Good friend to best friend – was when she left to the States in 2001 for four months and I realized I missed her very much. Best friend to courtship – read our love story
Would you recommend any books that helped you on your relationship with each other?
The Bible.
Purity Under Pressure (by Neil T. Anderson and Dave Park)
I love reading but when it came to relationships, I must say that it’s the counsel of wise people around me that gave me great insight. But ultimately ‘the’ book will have to be my Bible. Apart from that I highly recommend Passion and Purity by Elisabeth Elliot.
Do you guys truly, honestly, sincerely and naturally laugh at each other's jokes? Or does a laughing button exist for both of you? (serious question)
Yes, I think we TRULY, HONESTLY, SINCERELY and NATURALLY laugh at each other’s jokes! There are moments of course when I look at her blankly and say – “Did you truly, honestly, sincerely and naturally THINK that, that was funny?”
How can a laugh be insincere? I must say that more often than not, I end up laughing at his antics than the content of the joke.
Name one thing you find extremely interesting about the other, and make a simile out of it.
It exists, but it doesn’t feel like it exists – like the mole on her nose!
Just like the ageless folk tales that have been carried along through centuries, so will the look, length and style of Terence hairstyle be for endless days. Did you know that even his mother agrees with me on this?!
What was one of the big issues that had been a large obstacle for the both of you to get through since the beginning of the relationship?
I think for me was basically more of communication. I think transiting from friends to lovers is not as easy as one may think. Boundaries become wider and space becomes narrower. Though I adjusted faster than her, yet, on my side, the toughest obstacle was telling her to let her ‘guard’ drop.
Learning how to communicate in the best way at different circumstances. Saying the right words at the right time with the right attitude and motive. This is especially when we’re ticked or have an issue to settle.
If it's still humanly possible to get 11 kids, what would you name them? Or just give some names you might consider giving your kids?
Ternaldo, Teronney, Terdinand…
Terence always jokes about this, and I fear that one day it might be reality, hence I need to make it clear that 11 children is not ups for discussion – What I mean is that, we will NOT be having 11 children! Speaking of names, I have more than 11 to choose from – so I won’t go down the list. Just to name a few options: Bethany, Elise, Seth or Chad.
